In the brave new world of social media powered communication and interaction, everything is out in the open and news is available in an instant.
Branding and marketing folks have to:
1- Make sure their product/service is at its best- Once you release your product/service into the market, the word gets around fast and within days if not minutes or even seconds, people will know about the experiences of the “innovators” and “early adopters”. Whether or not your product lives up to its expectations, has flaws, or if its priced right, the entire market will know. Please keep in mind that I am not saying to overbuild, suffer from feature creep and miss your target release date but have it at a stage that you feel the user will not be annoyed by it and in turn, comment negatively.
2- Make sure they do not panic if they receive news that their product has flaws. With the presence of social media, product cycles have gotten much faster. It used to take months before the marketers would hear about what customers are saying or fixes they find. Now you hear about them faster than you can fix them and if you can react fast enough, there is definitely room to save the brand’s reputation.
3- As mentioned in my previous post, you must be “social” and willing to communicate with people. You have to be involved and interact with your audience on all of your social media networks. If you are not there, you will never know what is being said and this is why almost every social marketing blog you read mentions “dialogue’ rather than “monologue”. Please dedicate resources to social media marketing, both financial and human resources. If anything, we have to look up to brands like Coke.
