Tipping Point in Social Media Marketing

While reading one of Malcolm Gladwell’s “question and answer” sessions, I came across one of his answers in which he says, “I’m convinced that ideas and behaviors and new products move through a population very much like a disease does. This isn’t just a metaphor, in other words. I’m talking about a very literal analogy. One of the things I explore in the book (Tipping Point) is that ideas can be contagious in exactly the same way that a virus is.”

This made me think about social media marketing and how its entire concept is based on what Malcolm Gladwell mentions in his book, Tipping Point. I believe that all brands are, in fact, looking for that tipping point in social media. It’s a shame that Malcolm Gladwell has indicated he is not interested in writing about social media marketing, even though it seems like a very likely subject for him to write about.
