Think about your brand and marketing messaging as an outside-in rather than an inside-out approach.

Traditionally marketers developed their messages internally. Brand and marketing messaging, advertising headlines were developed by a collaborative effort between advertising and PR agencies and company’s management, board of directors and VCs and sometimes with the guidance of a brand consultant. Depending on company’s budget and timeline, the messages were sometimes tested with the market through conducting focus groups and often directly pushed to the market.

With the rise of Enterprise 2.0 through the power of social media networks, blogs and discussion forums customers are available and closer than you think. They are already discussing and evaluating your brands. What better way, than to listen to your audience, engage with them and let them assist you in developing your brand and marketing messages.
